Gamification – a historic perspective
Gamification—a historic perspective. The seminar will discuss a current status of affairs in the field of various intertwined strategies, which range from animation and
video-games to effective marketing strategies and are commonly labeled under an umbrella-term “gamification”. The analysis will address such topics as selection of effective
research tools and choosing a relevant historical context when trying to understand this phenomenon. Special attention will be given to the role of contemporary
processor-mediated technologies (computer, smart phones and etc.), and the future trajectories of gamification especially considering the unstoppable march towards ever smarter
AI, ever larger “global village” and ever more clever tactics in shaping user behavior leading to possibly deep ramifications in political milieu as the rise of gamified
ideology.
Prof. Zilvinas Lilas teaches at at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (Germany). Interests: Experimental 3D, gaming and playable systems, critical games, virtual
representation, cross and transmedia narration, stereoscopic imaging, creative industries, experience economy.

Bartas Polonskis lives and works in Vilnius. While working in “Ars Electronica Futurelab “ at Linz and “Urbonas Studio MIT” in Cambridge he developed new forms of user interface experience. Over the last decade all of his work was centered to interactive solutions used in public areas, interior and architecture all over the world. Biometrics, sign recognition, image processing and other HCI technologies are those Bartas uses in his projects. Recently with his team he’s involved in developing architectural and educational applications in virtual reality context. During his presentation Bartas will bring us closer to his experience with interactive technologies. He will show some behind the scenes material and share his experience on a professional scene.
