We are continuing a games programme entitled the ‘Aware Game Awards’ (AGA). This programme is dedicated to celebrating those games that strive to raise awareness about a range of topics, from personal experiences to global or social issues – games that focus on immersion and empathy, helping us to better understand each other and the world around us. We aim to show our audiences a completely different and unexpected side of gaming, while also inspiring and involving local creative communities.

María Luján Oulton is a games curator, cultural producer, and academic lecturer based in Barcelona. She holds a Master’s degree in Communication and Cultural Creation from the Fundación Walter Benjamin (thesis with honors in videogame curation). She directed “Game on! El arte en juego” in Argentina (2009-2019), the first and long-running artgames and playful media exhibition in Latin America, co‑founded GAIA (Game Arts International Assembly) with Jim Munroe (Canada), now an influential global network and bi-annual symposium for game curators, cultural producers, and community builders. Most recently, Luján has served as Artistic Director of the Now Play This Festival in London (2023-2024) and curated Oasis.The Videogame exhibition in Madrid (2021) and Mexico City (2022).

Game developer, screenwriter, dialogue writer, and communications, PR, and marketing expert. He began his career in the gaming industry in 1997 working on the game "The Prince and the Coward," and has been with 11 bit studios since 2010. He was nominated for a Polityka Passport for the game "This War of Mine" and won the prestigious Special Recognition Award at Digital Dragons 2019. He has worked on numerous bestselling titles, including Gorky 17, the Anomaly series, This War of Mine, Frostpunk, Moonlighter, Children of Morta, and most recently, Frostpunk 2 and The Alters. He is a member of the Program Council of the Indie Games Poland Foundation and co-founder of the Kultura Interaktywna Foundation, organizer of the first international Student Games Festival.

Natasha Sebben is a game and narrative designer. In 2022, she founded her studio natsha and is developing her debut title Psychotic Bathtub – a story-driven game about psychotic disorders and ducks. In addition, Natasha works as a Game Design teaching assistant at the Zurich University of the Arts. Her focus lies on game visuals, storytelling, and conception. And sometimes, on ducks.

Simone Cibrario Nona is a game designer and user researcher interested in the intersections between play, storytelling and sustainability. He graduated with a MCs in Games from the IT University Copenhagen: his approach to game design is methodological and innovation-oriented. Simone has a broad set of skills, from advanced game design techniques, to 3D modeling, to production and in-engine development. He has interned at Memorable Games, as well as being the lead designer at Monobit Games: an educational game startup.

Ian is an independent game designer and developer based in New York. He holds an MFA in Game Design from NYU, and has been primarily making small, experimental video games about day-to-day feelings and arbitrary thoughts, but also occasionally work across media like VR and alternative controllers. His work aims to explore unconventional forms, and how we convey and relate emotions through simple and thoughtful interactions. He usually makes short-form games because his interests jump around too quickly (and also they’re powerful and can carry a lot of weight and all that).

Tereza Kotěšovcová is a game developer, designer and programmer, currently working with Prague-based studio Charles Games on games with social impact and messages. After earning a degree in computer science, she continued by studying game design at Film and TV School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Her eco-themed strategy game Planetka was among the finalists for the Independent Games Festival Best Student Game award. She likes board games and hiking.

Rasa Narkūnaitė is a Lithuanian artist and co-creator of the anti-dating sim Sticky Date. She has graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Art with a Masters in Visual Media and Game Design, and has a background in creating illustrations and comics. Rasa blends colorful, cartoony visuals with emotion-driven worldbuilding. Inspired by the plethora of human experiences as well as personal self-reflections, her work invites players into honest, playful, and heartfelt spaces. She also dances tango.

Miroslav is an indie developer from Czechia, currently studying game design at The Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU). Also works as a game developer/designer at FUCHS DACHS GAMES. He loves telling personal stories with games, especially stories exploring psychology and identity, topics that are often based on his own life experiences. In the past few years he has been mostly focusing on creating games with anthropomorphic characters, as it's fascinating to bring new (animal) perspective to human stories.

Camilo is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on experimental computing. Based on an animistic perspective, he perceives the man-machine relationship as one of coexistence and symbiosis. Lately he has focused on building multiplayer arcade games that, through interpersonal interactions, deal with different political topics. Camilo is currently investigating about the aesthetic and technological possibilities of artisanat (craft) in relation to data sovereignty and autonomy.

Beka is a Computer Engineer, Academic Author and Digital Artist. Serving as an Editor-in-Chief in Academic Publishing "Mdevari" and as a Managing Partner and Audio-Visual developer at reroDev, a company that singlehandedly shapes the digital landscape in Sakartvelo and the Region. Created the concept, art, and soundtracks for the studio's mobile game Odyssey: Sakutaiso, which has been selected at BLON Aware Game Awards (also a finalist at CEEGA 2024 in Best Mobile Game Category).

Through Herdek, we aim to create a platform where games encourage meaningful dialogue and challenge the conventions of both videogame culture and broader societal conversations.

Monika Masłoń is a visual artist and art educator working at the intersection of experimental film, digital media, and sensory experience. She holds a Ph.D. from the Łódź Film School and has taught at the University of Leipzig and the Maria Grzegorzewska University in Warsaw. Her practice explores emotional states and embodied presence through immersive environments, combining video, sound, voice, and tactile materials. Her works have been shown internationally and include the VR piece CONTROL NEGATIVE (DOK Leipzig 2022). She is currently developing FEELING TOUCHED, a documentary installation about touch and the ways we represent and relate to others through both virtual and physical forms. She is also working on OCEAN, a multi-user VR experience inspired by Lem’s Solaris.

In the first part, the player controls the ship Argo in a stormy sea, in the second, takes the Picasso boy to Kutaisi of the 19th-20th centuries, and in the third, flies the "Winged Painter" by Peter Otskheli in the night sky.
